History<\/h2>\n

In 1926, our grandfather Alcide Merlet obtained his first honey harvest in Barbezieux (France) from a cork beehive that a neighbor had given him. Later, he settled with his family and 500 beehives in a forest in the Gharb region of Morocco where he also produced charcoal from eucalyptus. His son Raymond developed the activity to become the first beekeeper in Morocco with 5,000 hives in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

In 2016 Michel Merlet won the first prize for the best honey of the II Contest of monofloral honeys of the VIII National Congress of Apiculture.<\/span><\/p>\n

We present the different lines of action undertaken by our company MICHEL MERLET, S.L.: concerning social policy, responsibility towards the society in which we live as well as our active participation for the protection of the environment. These are the company’s own initiatives that lead us to develop different debates and concrete actions.<\/p>\n

Employee welfare.<\/h2>\n

At the request of the personnel, the company changed the working hours to a continuous workday system, i.e. production personnel benefit from a schedule of 7:00 am to 3:00 pm in the winter and 6:00 am to 2:00 pm in the summer months. This system allows you to have every afternoon free. The administrative staff’s working hours have also been adjusted, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. It was necessary to adapt workflows, logistics, suppliers, customers. After almost a year of this system, the advantages far outweigh the few disadvantages encountered.<\/p>\n

Environmental considerations.<\/h2>\n

The company operates in the primary sector, agriculture and livestock, aware of the need to move towards an ecological and wildlife-friendly production. the company participated very actively in an organic fruit and vegetable cooperative in the km 0 segment. Michel Merlet, S.L. was also a member of the executive board of CAECV (Organic Agriculture Committee of the Valencian Community) 020-CV and participates in the training of beekeepers and more especially of future operators of organic beekeeping. These training courses are conducted as part of a program of the organic production section of the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

Energy savings.<\/h2>\n

To save energy, the company has invested in a solar energy program that is the equivalent of planting 109 trees and reducing emissions by 2.4 tCO2\/year. This investment is currently underway and should be completed in 2023.<\/p>\n

Financial support to employees.<\/h2>\n

Employees who express a desire to do so may avail themselves of zero-interest loans from the company. These loans are supervised by an external consultant who draws up a contract and form an integral part of the annual tax return.<\/p>\n

Protection of nature.<\/h2>\n

The company has a beekeeping production side. The challenge of beekeeping is not to produce honey, but to promote the marketing of swarms to beekeepers in the province. In fact, climate change means that beekeepers today suffer 20-30% loss of hives during the winter. Therefore, it is necessary to supply it in swarms every spring; this is what we do by providing swarms at cost price.<\/p>\n
